We follow the emotional journey of a young courtesan as she chooses a life of true love over her previous empty and flirtatious existence. Sorrow comes along in the shape of her lover’s father, who, unbeknownst to his son, pleads with her to give up his son due to the shame her past life is bringing on the family, and in particular his daughter who is about to marry into an influential family. She is faced with the difficult choice of love over duty. We travel through myriad of songs from Strauss to Duparc, to Ireland to De Falla to Schumann and to Faure.
